Product Name Gentamicin Rapid Test Strip
Description Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is hydrosoluble, polar heat stable and slightly basic. Gentamicin’s antibacterial activity is due to its ability to bind to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome where it inhibits protein synthesis. All the aminoglycosides are potentially toxic compounds causing significant damage in vestibular and auditory functions in human and animals. Nevertheless, they are used in practice because of their antibacterial and antifungal activities. These compounds have been found to be useful for the treatment of serious infections due to Gram negative microorganisms. The European Commission established a gentamicin Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) of 50 ppb for muscle and fat, 200 ppb for liver, 750 ppb for kidney and 100 ppb for milk.
Intend Use The Rapid Gentamicin Test Kit is a qualitative and rapid lateral flow assay designed to detect Gentamicin in tissue or milk samples
Principle Of The Test The assay uses a competitive colloidal gold based format to test Gentamicin residues in tissues or milk. If Gentamicin is present in the sample it will therefore bind with the conjugate and will be labeled. As the sample migrates along the membrane and reaches the capture zone an excess of labeled antibody will bind to the immobilized antigen so that no visible line is produced. The bound conjugate will then bind to the antibodies in the control zone producing a visible control line. A single control line on the membrane is a positive result. Two visible lines in the capture and control zones is a negative result. However, if an excess of unlabelled Gentamicin are not present, a weak line may be produced in the capture zone, indicating an inconclusive result.
